Palmdale is the first community within the Antelope Valley to incorporate as a city (on August 24, 1962). In 2000, Palmdale's population was estimated at 116,670 based based upon the 2000 US census. As of 2009 the estimated population reached 151,346, making Palmdale one of the fastest growing cities in Southern California.
